Just Bummin' Around

Hi, I have been thinking about my blog lately and trying to decide if I should start doing daily outfit posts or something similar...what do you think?

Today is a bumming around the house and packing day so I am just wearing a tee from H&M and knit shorts from Soffe.

Sorry for the horrible picture, not too much to capture, just lazy day clothes. :)
Nail polish by Zoya mentioned in a previous post.
On another note I have taken up a new hobby, making bracelets. This is the first one I made EVER and I think it turned out pretty well, I am not very happy with the color of the tin cord but the end result is pretty.
I am not sure why the leather looks yellow, it is actually tan.
I am considering selling them on Etsy once the closures arrive so keep an eye out for them, I will also be making them in different color combos in the near future.

Anyways, nothing else going on here. Have a good day!

Latest Purchases

Hello!

It has just been a lazy weekend around here, not too much excitement but thinking about making a trip to the craft store to purchase supplies I need to try and make something I found on Pinterest.

Today I just wanted to share with you some of my newest purchases.

Both tops and shorts from H&M

The shirt and the shorts were both on sale at H&M, the top was $5 and the shorts were $7!I also bought a really cute bracelet for $1 but it broke so I am going to try and glue it. If I can fix it I will show it to you later.
Jean Jacket by DKNY (thrifted), Blazer by Jones New York (thrifted), Vest is from Kohl's

I think total for the second photo I paid around $10! That is why I love thrift store shopping, you can really find good pieces for a steal, especially for trends that may not stay in style for too long.

I also purchased a pair of Madden Girl sandals from a Department store, they look fairly similar to the ones I have linked below except mine are brown or cognac and def. not a size 11. :) (pictures when they arrive)

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend, Happy Sunday!

Hi there.

Hi Hi,

It has been awhile since my last post mainly because not much is going on here other than a recent vacation. Lately I have been obsessed with thrift store shopping, I don't know why I am so into it at the moment but I love finding super cool pieces like a few weeks ago I found an awesome Guess jean jacket for $7! On Memorial Day Goodwill had a 50 % off clothing sale and I scored a designer blazer for $7! Sadly it may have to go back, the fit is not so perfect :(

Does any one else like looking for finds at thrift stores?...I know many people do not like it and I had felt the same before( I still will not buy pants or shoes there) but there are so many good things to be found, all you have to do is wash them well in hot water.

On another note I found a super cute jewelry site today, SUPER cute stuff and good prices but I am currently waiting to hear back from them if they will ship to the US, fingers crossed!

Good Day!

High Low Skirt DIY

I saw this skirt and I knew I HAD to have one, I could not find one that I liked so I decided to make one. All you need is a thrifted long skirt, scissors, a fabric pen, an iron, and hem tap. This is super easy but can get tricky when hemming the edge, just be patient.

I am sorry I did not take photos of the whole process but it is pretty easy to explain.

1. Gather supplies and sit at a flat surface where you can lay the skirt out flat.

2. Before you sit down you want to try the skirt on and mark the length you want the front to be, make a mark right in the center of the front.

3. You will no fold the skirt. You want to fold the skirt so it is side to side, the mark you just made will be in half. Once you have folded the skirt you want to draw out your tail, start from the front mark and go straight towards the back for about 4 inches then start to taper off towards the back. (this is what will give you your high-low hem)

4. Once you get the shape you want you will cut along the line you made in the last step, cutting all the way through so you are cutting both sides at the same time.

5. now is where it gets tricky, try starting with one of the side hems and fold along the front making sure to keep the hem the same width, iron down. After you get the hem ironed in place, put in the hem tape between the folded fabric and press with iron. Continue around the skirt in this way until you are finished.

Voila, you now have a cute new skirt! Mine cost me less than $10 but if you have any of these things on hand, the cost will be less.

I love my skirt and actually plan on making a few more, I just have to find the right style skirt at the thrift store.

All done!

On the hanger.

What it looks like on.

Recently, I also made some cut off shorts. All I did was take some old jeans, cut them to length, and hem them with hem tape. I am thinking of distressing one of them but I did not have any steel wool.

Cut

Fold

Hem

Finished product one, I may distress this one.

And #2 I rolled them to give them an undone feel.
What do you think? I like the first pair but I think I cut them too short.. :(

I am considering trying a peplum skirt too, if I ca find the right kind of skirt I need to do so.

Have a lovely day.

Spring/Summer Must haves.

Sorry it has been so long, I have been busy busy. There are a lot of new styles going on right now some I love, some not so much. Does anyone have a fav?

For summer I LOVE Sam Edelman Gigi sandals, they are cute and simple. My go to every summer.

I am also in love with the 'fish tail' or high-low hem dress and skirts! I actually made one myself from a thrifted skirt that I picked up at Goodwill, it is super easy and you don't even know how to sew! I will post pictures and tutorial in my next posting.
Dress: Forever21 available HERE

One of the other trends I like is the mint green or turquoise green trend, I actually just bought Essie's Turks and Caicos nail polish and have been wearing it ever since.

Turks and Caicos available HERE

Pastels and Coral/Oranges are also a good trend this season and you can def. not go wrong with any of them.

Some products/items I am currently lusting over; Lee Stafford I hate my hair the day it's washed, a good facial primer ( I tried one for the first time and I cannot believe I have been without a primer this whole time!), and a peplum skirt that I actually plan to DIY once I find a skirt I can work with.

would like to make a peplum skirt similar to this Asos one, avail HERE

Not yet available in US :(

I hope everyone had a good Easter and Spring Break, please comment and tell me some of your fav. trends .or products that I should try out

Dermstore Hall

Okay, I have finally taken pictures of my Dermstore order that I talked about in my previous postings. I would like to start off by saying that I have found my new fav. place to buy higher end makeup and beauty products, the prices are reasonable and if you add items to your favorites list you save 10% each time you order them! Plus, shipping only takes about 3 days AND it is FREE! How awesome is that?! Like I had also said before I received a coupon from Myglam for $25 off of a $50 order at Dermstore so I decided to try them out and this is what I purchased.

Ole Henriksen Fresh Lips $15 - (description from the tube)- protects, hydrates, and plumps with sunscreen and camphor.
I would like to start out by saying that I have fallen in love with this product! I always have chapped lips an can never find a product that helps enough and this one does! I applied this product twice the day I received it and by the end of the day my lips were noticeably smoother. The consistency is creamy and it smells just a tad like menthol but not too strong, another plus is that it does not leave a nasty taste in your mouth like a lot of other products I have tried. Overall, this is my new go to lip product and I will def. be purchasing more of it. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Please excuse the chipping nail polish throughout these photos.

Lumene Blueberry Curl Mascara in Black-Brown $14-(description)-Flexible plastic brush is clump free and perfectly curls lashes, Nourishing Arctic blueberry helps to keep lashes strong and healthy.
Okay, I bought this product on a whim and have not even used it yet since I just opened a brand new tube of mascara before I purchased this one. It is a Finnish product and I am actually quite excited to try it and will let you know how it goes once I do.

Glominerals Brightener Highlight Concealer in Light $18-20-
Overall, I think that this product does its job. I have heard so many good things about Glominerals and was very excited to try this product, I think it covers fairly well and goes on flawlessly but I have to say I was disappointed with the amount of product I got for the price. this product comes in a .07 oz tube and before any product came out I had to turn it at least 20 times, I feel like half of the tube was empty. Other than that I do like this product, I have not used it on my dark circles yet but I tried it on my wrist and it seems to work well. I have very sensitive skin and have to be careful trying new products and so far I have had no trouble with Glominerals and I am considering buying there foundation as well.

Japonesque Travel size Lash comb and Brow brush combo $9
I was in need of a lash comb so I decided to give this one a try, I was surprised with it's size when it arrived, it is smaller than other combs I have seen but I don't think it is quite small enough to be considered travel size but that doesn't bother me I just throw it in my brush case. I don't have anything special to say about this product but it gets the job done and I am happy with it. It seems well made and I would probably purchase the brand again.

With my Dermstore purchase I also received two free samples, one of StriVectin-EV Get Even Brightening Serum and Elta MD Skincare UV Pure broad-spectrum sunscreen, neither of which I have tried but I am considering trying the sunscreen since it is,"sensitivity free, fragrance free, paraben free, oil free, dye free, gluten free, and noncomedogenic."

Well that is all for today, I am going to go compile a list for my must try outfits and beauty products to share with you some time this week. I hope everyone had a great weekend. :)

March MyGlam Review

Hello,
I received my March bag a couple of weeks ago and have not had a chance to share with you. As I said before, if I was disappointed in this month's bag I would be cancelling my sub, well I was pretty disappointed. Let's start with the bag itself, I threw it out, the smell was HORRIBLE! In my bag I received; pur-lisse pur-lip comfort(Full size!), Pur-lisse Pur-protect daily moisturizer(sample), Keracolor natural shampoo and leave-in treatment(sample size), Murad eye lift perfector(sample), a brush case that says MyGlam with a blending brush, and a Dermstore coupon for $25 off a $50 purchase. I think receiving sample sized products is the most disappointing since MyGlam claims you get at LEAST 4-5 DELUXE size samples a month, the samples I received are not deluxe and are something you could expect from a magazine ad or something along those lines. Even though I was fairly disappointed I was happy I got one full sized product that is worth my money.

Sorry I don't have any pics of the bag, it just smelled so I tossed it asap.
Okay, now for the product break down...

Pur-lisse Pur-lip Comfort- I am so glad I got this over the other options they had, I really like this product. These products are made in the USA and don't contain all the gross chemicals a lot of other products have in them. This lip cream has a pleasant scent that I am quite fond of, the texture is creamy and does not make your lips sticky. Overall it moisturizes well and I would def. buy this product.

Pur-lisse Pur-Protect- This is a daily moisturizer with sun protection. I have not used this product yet as I am on a skin routine to try and control my dry skin and break outs but I do plan on eventually try this. I love that it is free of parabens and other chemicals. The size of this sample may prevent me from being able to get a good feel for this product and as a result I probably will not purchase this product in the future.

Murad Eye Lift Perfector- I have yet to use this sample as well, I was completely unsure of what it was until I read on Dermstore that it is a "slightly tinted under-eye, anti-aging formula." I don't know that I will try this product, I am young and not really concerned with using anti-aging products just yet.

Keracolor Shampoo and leave-in treatment- I LOVED this shampoo, although there was not enough in the sample to wash my whole head of hair properly, I really liked it. It left my hair shinier and soft. Both of these products are supposed to enhance your color and natural highlights. I have not used the leave in treatment yet but I plan on trying it soon. I would buy this shampoo if it was sold in my area, for sure!

The brush and case don't really need a review as well as the coupon. :) I happily used the coupon and will be letting you know in a later post what I bought.

After the disappointment of this month's bag, I am considering going back to Birchbox..maybe.

Thanks for reading.

Heather

MyGlam Bag and more

Did I mention that I received my March MyGlam bag? Well lets just say I was disappointed, I will post later on with pics and reviews of the products. On another note, I found a foundation that I might actually stick with, Ulta foundation and primer in one. I have been using the Ulta foundation for about a week and so far so good, I got it on sale B1G1 free so I am very pleased. Oh, I also received my Dermstore order and will be sharing that soon as well!
Much Love,
Heather

Mall Mommy and me trip.

After watching Fashion Star for the first time last night, I fell in love with the dress that H&M bought, like I literally gasped when I saw it. So, today me and my little took a trip to the mall to 'play games at the arcade', before we went to play games we mad a pit stop and I looked all around the store for that little blue dress, when I found it I was not totally sure I loved it anymore..the blue was just not the same but I decided to try on the black instead, when I put it on..omg the fit is perfect, it is SO flattering and I love the pockets. Well I bought the dress and my little rushed me out of the store to the arcade, we played games and went on a ride. My day is complete. :)

Does anyone else like any of the looks from Fashion Star that were or weren't bought by retailers?

The search for a perfect foundation and concealer..

I have been trying to find the right foundation for my skin type recently and cannot find one that is within a decent price range that I actually like. I have used mostly all of the Clinique foundations and although I did find one that was okay, I was not completely happy with it. I really do not like Bare Minerals, with my dry skin I feel like it just sticks to the flakiness and looks gross. I just recently purchased an Almay foundation I have yet to try, I am hoping it works well otherwise it is back to searching I go.

As for concealer, I was using Clinique eye concealer but switched to MAC when it ran out. Lets just say I really dislike the MAC concealer, it does not give enough coverage and you need to use ALOT out of a very small tube. I am switching back to Clinique but I have to wonder if there is a better one out there, I was passed down the lovely dark circle gene and would LOVE to find an amazingly good circle concealer! Any suggestions out there?

Well on another note, this month is my second Glambag. I was not very happy with last months and choose not to write about it on here but I am hoping this months is better or I am afraid I will be cancelling my sub. just as I did with Birchbox. I will let you know what I think of the bag once it arrives!

Vintage Coach Love

Hello
Recently I have been  obsessed with vintage Coach bags and since they are remaking many of them, they have become quite popular. Instead of paying $300 for the remakes I went thrift store shopping and found my Coach Willis on sale for $16! I decided I loved the Willis so much I needed another but this time I got the station bag which I found on CL for $10! Don't get me wrong they were both far from perfect but not completely trashed like some I have seen, so I was using the Willis as-is but I decided I was going to try some kind of leather care products to bring them back to life. I almost purchased the Coach leather conditioner but for some reason decided to wait, go home and research some. After an hour or so of researching I was pretty glad I had not taken the sa's advice and bought the Coach conditioner, it turns out that it contains silicone which can ruin the vintage bags. I then read many Coach forums and found that a conditioner by Apple was talked about A LOT and seemed to get great reviews with the Coach collectors. So, I bought it, I used it and I am actually quite happy with the results! The bags look (almost) new!

Before

After

Sorry, I did not take before and after pictures of the black one but it was quite scuffed up on the front and in the picture you can see it looks pretty good. I am so happy I bought these and found a great leather conditioner for them. I think they are pieces I will keep for MANY years to come. Do you have a fav Coach bag?

Heather

DIY Clutch

I am in LOVE with this clutch that I made. It is the perfect size and SO cute. I first saw a clutch diy on Pinterest and decided I would give it a try. I bought black suede with a coupon for 1.79/yd and a bluish/gray cotton remnant for 1.49/yd! Overall I would say this clutch cost me.. under $10 plus I have enough fabric left over to make another. I followed this tutorial and just used a big book as a size guide, I think my fabric started at about 13 inches x 13 inches. (you can make it however big or small you would like)

Sorry, I did not take any pictures during the process and the ones I did take are quite horrible.Anyways, hope you like it.

On another note, I have been watching the Despicable Me minion movies ALL day with my little and now he is calling apples 'popper' because well duh that is how the minions say it! Oh BOY! I must go do some damage control. :)

Heather

Hello!

Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Heather and I have FINALLY decided to start my own blog. YAY. This blog is geared towards Life, motherhood, beauty, fashion, and yes, DIY.

Anyways, this is my first post and since I just received my very first Birchbox, I thought I would write about my somewhat disappointment. Okay so I found out about the Birchbox on Pinterest and decided it looked pretty cool and I wanted to try it. Well, it arrived today and upon opening I was somewhat deflated (LOL).
The box. Note:It ships in a pink box. :)

(These pictures were all taken after I had opened everything)
Welcome to Birchbox!

DEscriptions of the products you have just recieved.

·         C.O. Bigelow- Shampoo and Conditioner. It smells like what it says, a mix of lavender and peppermint. I honestly cannot decide if I like the smell or not… I think I would use it more for the aromatherapy. I have not used it yet and I really can’t say if I will.

·         Jouer- Moisturizing lip gloss in Birchbox pink. Ok, this is a VERY small little lip gloss. It does give your lips moisture, at first, I feel like my lips seem dryer after the lip gloss has worn off. The color is VERY pink! If you only put one light layer on it is significantly less pink and looks quite nice. Worth trying in a shade that is more me. J

·         Juicy Couture- Viva La Juicy. Ok, I love Juicy Couture but I was disappointed that Birchbox sent me a sample that I could probably have gotten at the mall for FREE. Oh well, I will still put this tiny sample to use.

·         Zoya- Nail polish in Kristen. This was by far my FAV product out of the January box. It is a bluish gray color that is young and fun. A full size is .5 fl oz and this sample was .25 fl oz, so a pretty good deal. I will def. be purchasing Zoya nail polish in the near future. LOVE.

·         For my EXTRA I received a LARABAR, let’s just say, at first I thought this was a soap bar. Haha oops. I was very reluctant to eat something that had been mailed to me but I decided to open it to take a TINY bite but it looked pretty unappetizing and smelled pretty gross. I threw it away without tasting it.
What's inside.

My Fav product from this box. The color on my nails is the color I received .

Overall, I am fairly disappointed in Birchbox and have heard I am not the only one who feels this way. I have yet to decide if I will continue to order Birchbox but, I have decided to order My Glam Bag. I will let you know how that is once I receive my first one.

That is all for today. I will be back to show off my latest fashion D.I.Y!

Love,

Heather
